The Arms of my beloved Dublin, where I lived and studied for 5 years and which I still hold very dear in my heart.
This is for Illustration Friday*
The theme this week is "Pale"
The phrase "beyond the pale", meaning to go beyond the limits of law or decency, was in use by the mid-17th century, and originally refers to the Pale in Ireland, a region in a radius of twenty miles (32 km) around Dublin which the English gradually fortified against incursion from wild Gaelic Ireland.
But you were a happy and obedient citizen I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteFantastic work on your blog. I like the graphic yet soft feel to your work...
ReplyDeleteLovely illustration and I love that you based it on a less well known definition of pale.
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to live in dublin!
ReplyDeleteI went there in 2001 for the first time to see where my maternal grandmother was from. I miss dublin, i miss ireland... i keep such wonderful memories of the people there. All your work is very inspiring, congratulations!
Hi there! Great blog. I'm a Dubliner & have just moved home having been away for a couple of years . Don't think I'll venture beyond the pale again! as then it would be where I'd leave my heart. Slan .
