Nude (revised)

A young lady at her toilet.

I've changed this slightly - pinker lips and nips and less off-putting off-setting.

Better, no?

Lonesome Norwegian

This lonesome Norwegian fellow puffs upon his briar and comtemplates the weight of snow upon his saplings.
"Don't worry, my emerald-needled little friend," chuckles our Lars "your boughs are very bouncy and spring-y!"

Notebook Numero 129

New notebook, the Twelfthty-ninth in this succession, christened this after-noon.

Like the way the dip-penned ink has bled.

Restaurant magazine - May 2009

A piece I've just done for the May issue of regular client Restaurant magazine.

Another piece about the current financial climate, and in particular, how Restaurant companies brought their colossal debts upon themselves taking foolish, greedy risks during the boom times.

I'm very happy with this, especially the character - its fun to draw the same person in different poses without getting too precious about it.

Daily Mail - Gardening - Watering Can

A piece for the Saturday 9th May issue of the Daily Mail's Weekend magazine Gardening pages.

Things are bursting forth now, make sure they're getting plenty of water!

Illustration Friday - "Theatre"

The most famous theatre of all time, Shalespeare's Globe.

The line below the image, "Within this wooden O..", is from the prologue of Henry V.

I do like a bit of Shakespeare, me.

Au Printemps

Voyez la jolie Marie, heureuse et legere comme la plume d'un oiseau! Le printemps est arrivé. La vie est belle!

Illustration Friday - "Impossibility"

A couple of expressions, from either side of the Channel, meaning more or less the same thing, the impossible or extremely unlikely.

Of course, the building is that Thames-side Behemoth, the Battersea Power Station - a cheap and oblique reference to Pink Floyd.

Inspire Me Thursday - Spice

The Phoenix lives for 500 years in the deserts of Egypt and Arabia, at the end of which time it builds a nest of aromatic barks and gums high up in a spice tree. The nest is consumed in fire and the Phoenix emerges re-born.

Guardian Education -21 April 09

A piece for my regular slot by former Teacher of the Year Phil Beadle.

Its about something called Assessment for Learning, which, despite having become a buzzword, no one really seems to understand. Much mention in the text of "the Black Box".

Illustration Friday - "Fleeting"

The poor madamoiselle has been spurned by her erstwhile paramour. Reading over his bilet doux cuts to her poor heart like the lunge of a rapier.

Words inspired by the Seeker's "The Carnival is Over"

Illustration Friday - "Talisman" No 2

Magical sword of Arthur, King of the Britons

Illustration Friday - "Talisman"

St Kit, who, according to legend, was a Canaanite 12 cubits (18 ft) tall and with a fearsome face.

He holds patronage of things related to travel and travelers ( including cyclists): against lightning; against pestilence; archers; bachelors; boatmen; bookbinders; epilepsy; floods; fruit dealers; fullers; gardeners; for a holy death; mariners; market carriers; motorists and drivers; sailors; storms; surfers; toothache; and transportation workers.

Illustration Friday - "Subtract"

Subtract. Take away. Takeaway. Geddit?

Ok, I know, a very bad joke. And two weeks late to boot. A hundred thousand apologies, but it was an idea I just didn't want to leave to fester unseen and unloved in my notebook.

Monday Artday - The Old West

A late ( but just in!) entry for last week's Monday Artday. The theme was the Old West. I've shown some gnarly ole prospector, at the end of a hard day, down to his underwear, having a coffee, cooking his beans and thinking 'bout what tomorrow might bring.

Illustration Friday - "Poise" No 2

Boy, does this girl have poise?! Not anyone can pull off an outfit of fish-net stockings, cordoban leather boots, a strings of pearls and not much else, but she can. But watch out, young miss, for that priceless Han dynasty vase upon the hall table!

April Fools' Day / Poisson d'Avril !

"...Conservative policies have taken us to the edge of a great precipice. Since Labour came to power, we have taken a huge step forward !"

Happy April Fools' Day!

A fool poised to stumble at the precipice.
